Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge?

The Branch of Jesse

In his oracle about the Spirit resting on the anointed one, Isaiah described the Messiah as a branch growing up in the family of Jesse. In other words, he was a prince of the royal house of David. The word for branch is neṣer. This can introduce another aspect of the lost Wisdom tradition, a play on words. The wise teachers of old Jerusalem were master wordsmiths. They played with the sounds and meanings of words.
