Why celebrate Bible Sunday??

Adrian Graffy

Catholic Bible Sunday falls on the second Sunday of Advent. Adrian Graffy explains why it is important. The author is Chair of the National Scripture Working Group, and parish priest of Gidea Park, Essex.

Since 1990 our diocesan directory has indicated that the Second Sunday of Advent is ?Bible Sunday?. Many will consider this yet another of an excessive number of ?named Sundays? in the liturgical year, which complicate and even distract from the liturgical Sunday. Bible Sunday has in its favour that there is no collection, and parish priests are not inundated with paper material to distribute to parishioners.
A Scripture scholar colleague of mine rightly maintains that every Sunday, in fact every day, is a bible day.
