Suddenly people are interested in food. In many parts of the world people are starving. We briefly describe the importance of food, its importance in the Church, and a few actions we can do to secure food. Edward P. Echlin is an honorary fellow at Leeds Trinity University College.

Some basic necessities of life we have taken for granted, at least until recently. Food is so basic, so necessary for life on earth that we could not live for long; or even imagine living without it. Like an infant confident in his mother?s provision of ?daily bread?, we presumed that food will always be there.
