The paradox of ministry according to St Paul

This is the third and final essay of a series on ministry in Second Corinthians.? Ronald D. Witherup, PSS is superior general of the Society of the Priests of Saint Sulpice.?

Nowhere does St Paul address his experience of ministry in more personal terms than in Second Corinthians. Two previous articles have addressed aspects of this ministry: the network of relationships and the role of money. In this third and final essay, we look at the paradox of ministry, which is intimately tied to Paul?s theology of the cross. In particular we examine the themes of integrity, suffering, the paradox of weakness and strength, and the ?folly? of ministry.

It all begins with integrity
What is the foundation of ministry in Paul?s understanding? It begins with integrity, remaining true to the call from God mediated through Christ. The editorial title of the New American Bible section of Second Corinthians (4.1-11) that discusses ministry is ?Integrity in the Ministry.?
