The Year of Catholic Education

Malcolm McMahon OP, Bishop of Nottingham, explains why he has announced a Year of Catholic Education, and describes the special nature of Catholic schools.

When Pope Benedict XVI visited St Mary's University College for the Big Assembly on 17 September 2010 I used the opportunity to announce the Year of Catholic Education. The reason the Church in England and Wales will be celebrating this is so that we might not only recognise what we have achieved in the past but also look forward to a future where we will ensure that only the best education is delivered to our young people.
